A Beginner's Guide To Dying - Simon Boas
Team Green Bananas – Ed, Gilly, Harriet and Merry – are running the Amsterdam Half Marathon to raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care, in memory of our much-missed friend, Simon Boas. We'll now also be joined in spirit by the auxiliary Green Bananas - Matty and Joe - who will be running their own half marathon in Jersey at the same time.
It’s been over a year since Jersey Hospice provided Simon with extraordinary care, comfort and dignity in his final days – and this is our way of saying thank you.
Simon, no doubt, would have found fault with the idea of such a disgustingly healthy activity done in his honour. But with some running pedigree in the team (including the London and Athens Marathons), and a deep reluctance to rattle buckets in pubs, we thought this was the better fundraising option.
Any support for you may be able to share for Jersey Hospice Care is so gratefully received. It’s a point of great sadness that a growing number of us may be affected by the need for specialist end-of-life care at some point in our lives, or the lives of our loved ones, or indeed emotional and bereavement counselling. But to know that when we need it, we have such compassionate, expert care to rely on is a comfort we mustn't take for granted.

Jersey Hospice Care
Jersey Hospice Care is the Island’s only hospice – providing specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting conditions. Services include the Specialist Palliative Care Team – who support people at home, in hospital, and in care homes, an In Patient Unit providing a home away from home, educational programmes, complementary therapy, emotional, spiritual and faith support, and community bereavement services. Jersey Hospice Care is an independent charity, providing all its services without a charge to patients. It costs £22,000 a day to run – funded mainly by the generosity of Islanders. This comes in the form of donations, fundraising, and sales in our charity shops, as well as through the outstanding work of the dedicated volunteers who give their time and skills to keep Hospice running.
