Jersey Spartan AC are organizing a 3km awareness run on 19 May, proudly sponsored by MorrisonsDailyCI. This event aims to raise awareness about skin cancer while bringing the community together for a positive cause. All donations collected will go to Macmillan in support of those affected.

The race begins at 6:30pm, with check-in open from 6:00pm. Starting and finishing at the first shelter along the avenue, the course follows a simple out-and-back route, making it accessible for runners of all abilities. You can sign up here.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, and in the Channel Islands it represents around 40-45% of all cancer cases. Recent figures show that Jersey alone sees around 418 new skin cancer cases each year, including approximately 58 cases of malignant melanoma annually. Rates on the island are significantly higher than the UK average, with some studies showing incidence levels among the highest in Europe. In fact, non-melanoma skin cancer rates in Jersey are nearly double those seen in England.

These statistics highlight the importance of awareness, early detection, and sun safety. By taking part, you're helping shine a light on a largely preventable disease and supporting vital care services.
