About Kalem
During this May half term, I’ve set myself a new personal challenge: walking 48.2 miles every day for 5 days, a total of 241 miles, to raise money for Mind Jersey and Jersey Cancer Relief.
Last November, I completed my first challenge, which involved cycling, swimming, and walking for Movember. I was incredibly proud of what I achieved, both physically and in raising funds for a great cause. This year, I want to push myself even further and support two amazing local charities that help islanders through some of life’s toughest moments.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to have a powerful impact on our mental wellbeing. With every step, I’ll be embracing that benefit whilst pushing my limits and raising awareness to support these incredible charities.
It won’t be easy, there will be long days, tired legs, and moments where I’ll really have to dig deep, but that’s exactly why I’m doing it. Every mile is for something bigger than me!

Mind Jersey
Mind Jersey is an independent local charity that provides support to people living with mental illness. Our vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental illness fairly, positively and with respect. Although affiliated with Mind in the UK, Mind Jersey retains its independence, both financially and operationally. All money raised by Mind Jersey stays in Jersey for the benefit of Island residents. Our affiliation ensures that we meet Mind’s quality standards of governance and service delivery, follow best practice models of involving local people in their community – People who have had experience of mental illness – and provide good quality services. This can only be a good thing, demonstrating that we are a serious organisation that works professionally, has a stable management structure and well supported and appropriately trained and skilled staff.

Jersey Cancer Relief
Jersey Cancer Relief came into being in 1968, initially as the Jersey branch of the national campaign, when it was found that some cancer patients and their families were finding it difficult to cope financially because of their illness.
It was incorporated as a Jersey charity in November 1973. Since then, due to generous donations and our own fundraising efforts, it has been possible to offer assistance to many Islanders.
We are honoured to have Dr Karen Kyd as our Patron.
